Alexandros Yiorkadjis
Alexandros Yiorkadjis is a Cypriot sculptor, his education is Italian, he studied his first year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia and continued at the Academy of Bologna with Davide Rivalta, where he graduated in 2011. In 2006 he took part in the exhibition of the Erasmus project of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, which was also held in Marseille. Winner of the PNA (National Arts Award) 2007-2008 in the Sculpture section.
Alexandros has had solo exhibitions including "Human... Being" held in Nicosia in 2013 and group exhibitions in Italy, France, Greece and the Czech Republic. In 2011 one of his works was selected for the exhibition dedicated to the Italian Academies of Fine Arts which took place in parallel to the 54th Venice Biennale.
In his artistic production prevails the emotional component that springs from the different nuances through which human existence is investigated. His sculptures and installations invite to reflect on various aspects of the individual in relation to the current social condition, with the use of traditional materials such as bronze and terracotta, but also with the use of more contemporary ones such as synthetics and aluminum.
Alexandros Yiorkadjis is an impressive sculptor and a powerful modeller. His no global themes are inserted in a harmonic vision of the world respectful of nature, almost of pantheistic root. An inventor of images in which he succeeds in fixing the movement of man and the becoming of feelings and movements of the soul".
His works constitute a true spiritual itinerary towards the individual's awareness of himself and of the duality "body-mind".
